Quick tip.

This is a first in a series, maybe. Sometimes it pays to cross your gear cables to reduce friction. If you look at the picture you can red the cables are crossed so that the cable housing gets a path of less resistance around the head tube. Instead of the housings doing an S bend, they only do a wide bend, and the cables, although they touch, will have less resistance. Try it on your bike. (Illustrated bike: DBS Intruder XTR.)
